The last “Faculty Advisory Board” meeting of the Faculty of Communication of Fırat University for 2024 was held with the participation of stakeholders.
The Advisory Board of the Faculty of Communication of Fırat University came together at the Deanship of the Faculty of Communication on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 11:00 with the participation of representatives of the communication sector and academic and administrative staff.
While the sector representative Fırat Basin Journalists Association President Serkan Göktürk attended the meeting; Dean Prof. Dr. Nural İmik Tanyıldızı, Vice Dean Dr. Lecturer Tamer Kavuran, Journalism Department Lecturer Prof. Dr. Göksel Göker, Res. Asst. Erhan Kılıç, administrative staff Mehmet Bulut and İbrahim Çetin attended from the Faculty of Communication of Fırat University.
The meeting, chaired by Dean Prof. Dr. Nural İmik Tanyıldızı, started with the introduction of the faculty. Dean Prof. Dr. Tanyıldızı informed the stakeholders about the faculty. Dean Prof. Dr. Tanyıldızı provided the following information about the agenda of the meeting:
“In our meeting, we will discuss the employment problems of our faculty graduates and issues related to the curriculum. We will discuss the expectations of the communication sector and the developments in the field of communication. Finally, we will discuss cooperation opportunities with stakeholders.”
At the meeting, Serkan Göktürk, President of the Fırat Basin Journalists Association, shared his views and suggestions about the expectations of the communication sector in Elazığ and the developments in the press field.
Assistant Dean Dr. Lecturer Tamer Kavuran and Journalism Department Lecturer Prof. Dr. Göksel Göker also expressed their academic views and suggestions about artificial intelligence in the field of communication.
In the meeting, there was also an exchange of views with stakeholders about cooperation opportunities and issues.
At the end of the meeting, stakeholders toured the Communication Museum opened at the Faculty of Communication, accompanied by Dean Prof. Dr. Tanyıldızı.
The decisions taken at the Faculty Advisory Board meeting of the Faculty of Communication were announced as follows:
“Employment problems of our faculty graduates and issues related to the curriculum”
a) Conducting studies on all employees working in local press and broadcasting organizations, such as reporters, presenters, cameramen, etc. to be graduates of the Faculty of Communication or Communication High School.
b) Ensuring that the materials used for educational purposes by students are updated due to the very rapid progress and development in the sector.
c) Increasing the number of workshops and studios, developing and updating the course materials used for educational purposes.
d) Making arrangements and studies on artificial intelligence-supported courses in course curricula.
“Expectations of the communication sector and developments in the field of communication.”
a) Conducting studies on increasing interaction in education and developing innovative teaching methods using artificial intelligence.
b) Ensuring that students do not fall behind the developments in the field of communication by utilizing experts in applied and workshop courses.
c) Renewing and updating the programs and tools used and making them suitable for today’s conditions.
d) To increase the education provided to students of the Faculty of Communication and the Communication High School in order to meet the need for qualified personnel in the communication sector.
“The issue of discussing cooperation opportunities with stakeholders”
a) Strengthening cooperation with the local press and creating suitable conditions for students to work with local media organizations for applied courses and workshops.
b) Ensuring that the graduation projects prepared by our faculty students and the documentary programs prepared by our students in this context are broadcasted on local channels.
c) Providing opportunities for students of the Faculty of Communication to work in local media organizations and gain experience.
