History
Firat University Faculty of Communication was established with the decree numbered 97/9930 published in the official newspaper numbered 23115 dated 19.09.1997 and started its education activities in the 2001-2002 academic year. Our faculty provides education in four departments: Radio - Television and Cinema, Public Relations and Publicity, Journalism, and Visual Communication Design. In the 2009-2010 academic year, Department of Radio - Television and Cinema's evening education program and Public Relations and Publicity Department's formal education program is opened. And in the 2010-2011 academic year, Public Relations and Publicity Department's evening education program is opened. With the admission of students to the curriculum, the Department of Journalism in the 2013-2014 academic year and the Department of Visual Communication Design in the 2019-2020 academic year, all departments of our Faculty have become active. We also have master's and doctoral programs in the Department of Communication Sciences within our faculty.
In addition, one of the application units of our faculty, whose foundation dates back to 1991, "Firat Radio-TV" provides great support to our students' studies in the field of visual media. Our students can turn theoretical knowledge into practice with this technological equipment. In addition to the Firat Radio-TV unit, the strong local media environment operating in Elazığ offers various opportunities to our students. The newspaper application of our faculty, "Firat News" contributes to the development of our students in different areas of journalism, with both its printed and digital versions. As of January 2021 there are 2135 students studying in the formal and evening education programs. There are 670 students in the Radio - Television and Cinema Department, 668 students in the Public Relations and Publicity Department, 675 students in the Journalism Department, and 122 students in the Visual Communication Design Department within our Faculty.
